To Whom it May Concern:
Public school children in Illinois are being adversely affected by the food service bid laws in place regarding the ability of local school boards to contract with food service management companies that do not offer the lowest bids. Illinois is one of only two states that forces school districts to contract with the lowest responsible bidder.
Food service is an area that affects approximately 95% of students at some point during every school year. Local school districts should be able to determine the best option for offering nutritious and quality foods for their children.
While the Transportation Bidding Law has been adjusted to give local school boards more control over their choice of transportation service, unfortunately, food service management has been ignored.
We are looking for support in changing this law to benefit the school children of Illinois. Please sign this petition to indicate your opposition to the current bidding laws regarding food service management companies and encourage our state to amend it's laws to give school districts the right to choose their food service providers based on criteria in addition to the lowest bid.
Respectfully,
Hawthorn CCSD 73
