We have organised our own food waste scheme, where as a team we take responsibility for emptying our own bins.

This should be provided not only in shared areas of campus but in staff areas e.g. kitchens (where food waste is most likely to be generated).
The Psychology Department (10 West) has already organised its own independent food waste scheme, in which voluntary members of a green team take responsibility for emptying food waste bins, i.e. NOT creating extra work for estates

At a rough average I’d say, at a very conservative average it is about 11 lbs of food waste a week – so let’s say 572 lbs a year on one office floor at East Building where we have a bin for approx 50 people which I empty.

Have been wanting food bins on campus for 4 years - especially for a sporty uni where loads of people eat fruit like bananas, it's ludicrous that there's nowhere to chuck the compostable waste!
