We are petitioning to make The University of Bath realise that the student and staff body want to have food bins available in the food outlets and public spaces on the campus. A third of all food produced globally gets wasted each year. This is something that shouldn't even need to be campaigned for on campus however at the moment students don't even have the option to recycle their food waste whilst at university (where we spend most of our time!). So please join in by signing this petition and let the power of numbers show the University that this is something students and staff are asking for and they cannot push aside any longer.

It’s about time! It’s also a bit ridiculous that food is served in Vegware containers when they will just end up in landfill. To be composted they need to be sent to an industrial composting facility... which they currently are not from our university

I have recently commenced working at the University and spent 15 minutes my first day walking around trying to find a food waste bin, only to discover that there aren't any! This is a key area that needs urgent attention.

Just want to agree with Shona's comments about who will empty them--we must ensure that this is not yet another unpaid task placed on already over-worked catering and portering colleagues.

This should be provided not only in shared areas of campus but in staff areas e.g. kitchens (where food waste is most likely to be generated). The Psychology Department (10 West) has already organised its own independent food waste scheme, in which voluntary members of a green team take responsibility for emptying food waste bins, i.e. NOT creating extra work for estates

At a rough average I’d say, at a very conservative average it is about 11 lbs of food waste a week – so let’s say 572 lbs a year on one office floor at East Building where we have a bin for approx 50 people which I empty.

Have been wanting food bins on campus for 4 years - especially for a sporty uni where loads of people eat fruit like bananas, it's ludicrous that there's nowhere to chuck the compostable waste!

Why don't they have this already?
