You may or may not be aware that the west side of American River Canyon Drive South is in the San Juan School District. This neighborhood lies in the city of Folsom and pays Folsom taxes.
Because of the way the neighborhood is zoned, families living on this side of ARC Dr are required to submit an inter-district transfer to attend Folsom schools and are not guaranteed a spot.
If the class size is at capacity, that child may not be able to attend or continue to attend classes with the same group of students. Most families purchased homes in this neighborhood with the understanding they would be grandfathered into Folsom schools, but that is no longer the case.
The new South of 50 project only exacerbates this issue. There are currently no new schools being built to accommodate these new homes and families in this area will be sent to existing Folsom schools. These new homes are set to be zoned for Folsom and will likely be given priority over inter-district transfers.
We are asking the Folsom Cordova School Board to review the zoning and change it, or make an exception for this ARC neighborhood so the families living here can continue to attend Folsom schools without worrying their child may be turned away due to overcapacity.

I grew up in American River Canyon South and went through the Folsom school system K-12. Thanks to the world class programs offered in Folsom, I was set up for success in college and after. Allow Folsom children the chance to be educated in Folsom.
The families that live in this neighborhood are Folsom families. Many of the kids attended Folsom preschools and play Folsom sports, yet they can't automatically attend school in Folsom? The city keeps building yet, the council and the school board expects existing, established families to jus t deal with it? That's ridiculous.
We live in Folsom (not ARC south) and are also zoned for SJUSD. Our son was able to transfer but with this new development, our daughter may not be able to. As Folsom homeowners we shouldn't have to worry about whether our children will be allowed to attend Folsom schools.
We live in American River Canyon and went through months of stress and begging to get into the Folsom Cordova School District. We are prideful Folsom residents and love our city. Please include us in the school district of our home town. Thank you!
We currently live in ARC south and were under the impression we would always be allowed to attend Folsom schools. Now with our son being in Kindergarten he ended up being denied. It makes it extremely frustrating to know we live in Folsom and pay Folsom taxes but are unable to attend Folsom schools with the rest of our neighborhood friends.
We live within the Folsom City Limits, therefore our children should be allowed to attend Folsom Schools without question.
