These research areas are fundamental in Computing and if we want to allow AI to be deployed in more applications these areas of research will be the enablers

Foundations of computer science is the main strength of the Leicester Informatics School. It's madness to throw this away. I speak as an alumnus.

Professor and Head of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow. Apart from being terrible management and employee relations, this proposal is short-sighted and self-defeating: you can't pursue excellence in teaching or research in the listed areas without paying attention to theory and foundations.
