Keep FM 1781 Open!

Highway FM 1781 is an asset to Aransas County as a major thoroughfare and scenic loop. It should remain open. This highway has never been a problem for aviation in the history of Aransas County Airport. The fact that Copano Bay, located immediately to the northwest, provides an excellent place for aircraft in trouble to go down safely should be grounds enough to permit the road to stay open. Copano Bay has been used many times for this purpose. (Ask Captain "Sully" where he would rather land.) We feel that Representative Todd Hunter and Senator Glenn Hagar should convince TXDOT to not turn over this highway to the County and/or the City in an effort to keep the Federal government from forcing its closure. We also feel that US Representative Ron Paul and US Senators John Cornin and Kay Bailey Hutchison should intervene on our behalf to keep the FAA from forcing its closure or requiring the County to repay the funds used to improve our airport for the benefit of all citizens should this highway not be closed.
