It doesn’t benefit Florida’s or the United States’ workforce going forward if children are illiterate leaving schools with diplomas.

In Ohio, we have the third grade reading guarantee. For the last few summers, I have helped some of the sweetest third graders be able to read so they could progress to fourth grade when school began. Not everyone made it last summer.

My son is Dyslexic and is ADHD
I would love for him to have trained teachers. Bring back the love for learning!

All children deserve to learn how to read! There is no excuse in the United States for any teacher to not know the science of reading or to not know about dyslexia!

All students should be screened for dyslexia at the end of kindergarten and all schools should have a structured literacy program in place to provide FAPE to those students. This will be much better use of funds then paying for students to repeat 3rd grade due to the FSA retention policy.

I have been advocating for the 1 in 5 in South Florida for many years. Children deserve the right to learn how to read. We need end illiteracy and provide structured literacy programming to ALL children in the State of Florida.

My child just finished the 3rd grade and struggles with reading. She has only received minimal intervention to help her in this area, and this intervention was mainly focused on passing the FSA. We need to do better for our children- teach reading as a life skill, not just to pass a test.
