Alaskans are awarded for being residents of an oil-rich state, why not Floridians for voting in a sun-rich state? Floridians should be given $1000 a month tax-free for every year they vote in a general election; this excludes tourists, children, and felons whose rights are not restored. The money would then quickly flow to the local economy, letting citizens have a chance to visit the same beaches that lure foreigners from around the world.
Given the low voter turnout rate even during Presidential races, this should be cheap. This would also replace some of the unemployment money denied improperly, whether by a defective Web site or by punishing workers for not making enough money.
How can this be any less moral than the voter-caging of soldiers and college students during the 2000 election?
