We, the undersigned, are concerned Pentucket students and faculty members who urge our school to act now to give accelerated math classes a heavier GPA weight than honors classes.

Accelerated classes are offered in every mathematics class excluding Calculus, for which there is an AP course offered. According to Pentucket's 2016-2017 Program of Studies, accelerated courses are "more demanding, intensive, and extensive." In them, "each topic will be treated in greater depth and complexity."

However, currently, students who take these classes do not receive any more credit than those taking regular honors math classes. As their peers in honors receive higher grades for significantly easier workloads, the transcripts and ranks of the students in accelerated classes are hurting, sorely.

In fact, as of this month, the accelerated pre-calculus class is three entire chapters ahead of the honors pre-calculus class and has been given assessments far more intensive than theirs with no recognition on their transcripts.
