Currently, the Government has invested $1.9 billion into the Ministry of Health for changes towards the mental health system. However, only a small per cent of this budget has been spent as of June 2021. With the constant need for help across youth throughout New Zealand, a significant way that can help these people are through crisis helplines. There are many stories from youth across the country attempting to access these helplines only for them to not respond sufficiently. Especially with Covid-19 lockdowns, the need for mental health aid is only rising. Helplines can be an easily accessible way for youth to access urgent care. Funding these can not only increase the number of people who can gain access to this help, but can also be able to supply useful information for those in contact and how they can deal with their situation. The current state of New Zealand helplines needs to change, by signing this petition you are stating that there needs to be an acknowledgement by the government and health officials to change the state of the mental health system.
