The Bronx Theatre Student Body is exhausted by the way our needs and beliefs are mistreated in this school. Our right to a voice has never been acknowledged, and we are never asked about what will benefit us. It is time for us to take a stand, and demand that we be heard. We are always told to act like adults, but are still treated as children. This is our school, and our school needs to be fixed.
Below are three main points of change that need to be in effect immediately:
1) Our microwave has been taken away from us because of one incident. Now, because of this, we are all subjected to either:
a) Bombard and hope to God we can use another teacher's microwave
b) Eat the unhealthy, unappetizing school lunch, or
c) Starvation.
We demand that a microwave be put in both the 7th floor and the 4th floor cafeterias. Also, we ask that they are periodically cleaned to avoid odor and bacteria, like the previous microwaves.
2) The last creative aspect of our school has been wrongfully taken from us. The first thing that anyone admires about our school is the Fish Bowl on the 7th floor. It has been in our school for years, but on the night of November 13th, 2014, it was vandalized with white paint. We were not warned that this space was to be changed into a "study hall" of sorts.We demand that the current "White Bowl" be changed into something artistic, or into a different design of our beloved Fish Bowl.
3) Being that we are Bronx Theatre High School (pay attention to the word THEATRE) and told to let our creative side out, that is highly improbable with the lack of resources that our theater program and after school activities receive. We demand that we receive financial assistance for all of our plays, productions, and clubs that need support.
