Season ticket holder in my family for over 40 years. This is the worst I have seen it. Eaves may be a good coach to get players NHL ready...but he is a horrible college coach. He has run the program into the ice. Almost as bad is Alvarez doesn't care. As long as his money machine of the football team keeps it rolling in, he will put every other sport to the side and leave it alone. It's a Sad Day for Hockey in Wisconsin.

This team is disgraceful. Thank god we'll be able to sell the Gopher tickets, that team would have struggled to beat Madison Memorial last night.

My parents have been season ticket holders both nights for over 40 years and I have been going to games with them since I was born 30 years ago . Tonight was the final straw for my dad and he has vowed to not get season tickets at minimum for Saturday night, possibly even both nights, next year. Badger hockey games have been a part of our family’s tradition each winter, but we’ve had enough of Eaves boring style of play, underachieving teams, and inability to recruit to the current trends in college hockey. I don’t give a rip how many NHL players UW has developed under Eaves. His job is NOT to develop successful NHL players, his job is to win games here at Wisconsin. His style is boring, systematic, offensively challenged, and losing ground in today’s world of college hockey. Considering the talent he has had to work with, his overall winning percentage is average and should be MUCH higher, especially at what should be a premier hockey school year after year. However, we’ve settled for average, boring hockey that excites no one. Even with a young roster, the hockey that is being played right now is fundamentally bad and uninspired. The team is horrible this year and there doesn’t seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel. Attendance is WAY down and will only get worse as the season goes on. Many season ticket holders like my family will decide it’s not worth it to renew next year and watch more boring, lack of offensive creativity hockey. Barry Alvarez has said he supports Eaves, but Eaves isn’t going to be able to put butts in the seats anymore and it’s going to hurt Barry where it hurts most, his athletic pocket book. Change is overdue, Eaves has run his course. Youth or not, 2006 national championship or not, his winning percentage, his boring style, and the fact that fans are losing interest and attendance is way down are all signs that Alvarez has to make a change.

It's shameful for Badger hockey to be this bad with the tradition, history and facilities they offer. In addition, the lack of consistency from one season to the next indicates poor coaching. If Badger football or basketball was so inconsistent from one season to the next, and they started this poorly, Alvarez would find a new coach. Why put up with this pathetic excuse of coaching for hockey?

It's time for a change. Attendance has been consistently decreasing for several years. Coach Eaves has poorly hired assistant coaches and he should be held accountable. The only reason he has survived this long is because of the 2006 championship.

Mike Eaves can certainly recruit, he just can't coach. I tihnk Jeff Sauer would have had 5 or 6 championships by now with the talent that Wisconsin has gotten the past 13 years.

I felt he was the wrong hire to begin with. After being forced to suffer through mediocrity over the years leading up to his hiring, the Department needed to make a much better hire and they dropped the ball. Now here we are, 13(!) years later. Should have happened long ago.

In addition, get new assistant coaches. The two assistant coaches are learning on the job. Eaves is responsible for hiring weak assistants, and ultimately the downfall of the program is his responsibility. Let me put it this way, Nebraska-Omaha has a better coaching staff than Wisconsin. Wisconsin, with its tradition and facilities should be to mens hockey what Alabama is to football.
