To Extend the PA Tuition Relief Act to State-Related Universities

I am very upset at Governor Rendell's proposed 2009-2010 budget which includes the Tuition Relief Act, a financial aid proposal that excludes all state-related universities, including the petition sponsor, Temple University. The state has recently cut Temple's budget by another 6%, which will necessitate a tuition hike. An increase in tuition will affect a large number of our students, including the 83% of students who would be eligible for financial assistance under the proposal, as their family incomes fall below $100,000. We should be eligible for tuition assistance from the state and we should be included in the Tuition Relief Act or an alternative should be created for all of the state-related schools that were excluded from the plan. I am a student in a state-related university and I do not support the Tuition Relief Act as it is currently proposed. We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who are urging Pennsylvania State Legislature to act now to include Temple University, Penn State University, Lincoln University, and the University of Pittsburgh in the Tuition Relief Act or find an alternative source of aid for our students.
