Because of the well documented crowd trouble around Manchester at the time of the UEFA Cup final, Manchester City Council say it would be unreasonable to show the Champions League final on big screens too. The 1999 final was shown on big screens and Mancunians behaved impeccably. The UEFA Cup final trouble involved Rangers' fans and Rangers' fans alone, why should Manchester United fans be penalised for something in which they had no involvement The UEFA Cup final was not held at the City of Manchester Stadium at their request. Manchester City Council ought to celebrate the fact that it has a team in the most prestigious club competition in the world. To show the Champions League final on big screens just a week after the Rangers' fans despicable behaviour would offer a perfect riposte to media criticism when, as I am sure we would all ensure, the game is enjoyed in the celebratory and jovial mood it deserves.
