Fill the boats! I believe that eliminating or rerouting to downtown the Fauntleroy/Southworth run while keeping the Vashon/Southworth run would solve the problem. Southworth residents have many other options, while Vashon residents do not. There just isn't the capacity at the Fauntleroy dock or loading area any longer.

I live in the 98070 zip code. To WSF: Your primary goal is moving cars off the docks and onto the boats. It is the sole reason you exist. If you end up off schedule, but your boat isn't full, and the boat leaves unfilled to try to maintain schedule, you're not meeting your primary goal. Canceling a sailing or multiple sailings in order to get the schedule back on time doesn't move cars off the dock. It stacks more cars up on the dock and onto the street, so far up the street at times that there is no longer a ferry waiting lane available - it actually stops the only southbound traffic lane because cars for the ferry are forced to stop in the actual traffic lane - while waiting even longer as your boats serve a clock. The clock is not your customer. The passenger is your customer. Period. If it's a choice between a clock and cars, your goal is always cars. Books of paper tickets worked for smoothly loading cars and keeping the backup in check. They're cheaper and more reliable than computerized handheld scanners. They're quicker than every car stopping at the toll booth. They're low tech and that's a good thing. This recent absurdity of a scheduling and loading circus is totally stoppable. So please stop it.

Why not just have waiting but unticketed cars drive onto the ferry and collect the money using the same WSDOT system used for people without a Good To Go! pass who use the 520 bridge? Just install the camera and bingo, problem solved.

(98070) The purpose of the ferries isn't to move the boats themselves, it is to carry people and their vehicles safely across the water. It's absurd to dispatch a half-full ferry when there are ticketed cars in line and empty spaces on the ferry. If that means changing the ticketing and queuing system, let's figure that out.

As a Vashon Islander for more than half a century, I am anxious to at least keep the ferry service that we've had in the past--instead of making it worse, as seems to be happening now. Let's improve it! I'm in 98070, of course!
