NUS-USI is urging students to beware of unscrupulous landlords, who are targeting students’ deposits as income. These deposits are being retained infairly rather than acting as insurance for landlords that the terms of their leases will be complied with properly. NUS-USI is asking you, our membership, students and parents to sign up to our pledge to support the fight against rogue landlords and protect our deposits. Do you want to see a fair and equal scheme that will ensure poor practices in the housing sector are stamped out? Will you put pressure on your MLA to support the motion on Monday which urges the Minister for Social Development to urgently bring forward his plans to introduce a mandatory Tenancy Deposit Scheme which would safeguard tenants' deposits and provide a fair and effective mechanism to resolve disputes.
