My dog has never fallen sick due to any food contamination in her six years of being fed raw.

As a veterinarian, I am baffled by the government's contradictory policies on Salmonella. The FDA holds pet food to a much higher standard than human food. Raw supermarket meats are well known to carry multiple pathogenic bacteria (under the standard of "no visible fecal contamination" but if it isn't visible to the naked eye, it's fine.) Yet raw pet food is held to an unreasonable "zero tolerance" standard, even though up to 30% of dogs and 18% of cats (who *don't* eat raw meat) are asymptomatic carriers of Salmonella due to its widespread contamination in the environment.

The only incident of food contamination that I have come across was from handling Kibble. Good hygiene requires the same safe handling no matter what you are feeding your pet.

Why doesn't the FDA and whoever set the same standards for human food.
Maybe because all the human food mfrs. are big business and would be an inconvenience to them. Right!

I want the right to get the kind of food I want for my pets. Forcing me to buy kibble that is not healthy is not acceptable.
