Fight for Your Right to Buy Minimally Processed Pet Food

Raw diet has completely transformed my Yorkie, Zoe. After suffering from severe IBD and almost losing her while on commercially prepared kibble (one of the highest rated), I switched her to Primal raw. The changes in her in a year have been nothing short of miraculous.

I have fed my 5+ dogs raw for 15 years. No problems at all.

I have been feeding raw since 1998. My Border Collie lived to 16 1/2 and my Toller was just shy of 15 years. While feeding raw is more expensive than feeding commercial junk, the cost is offset by lower medical costs.

I switched from kibble to raw feeding in 2002 and the improved health and condition of my dogs was noticeable to everyone that saw them.

The FDA should be focused on improving security of the mega food processing plants and factory farmed livestock.

I want to preserve my right to feed my dog the way that is best to support his life and health.

We have the right to a healthy pet. We have the right to free choice.

Would the politicians and manufacturers like to live on nothing but freeze-dried food? And that's not half as bad as kibbled "complete" dog food which couldn't be manufactured without a hefty percentage of carbs which dogs are not designed to eat. My hounds are very healthy on raw food, and with the addition of garlic and other things, free of worms and fleas without resorting to chemical wormers. As well as dogs I have cows which also have an exclusively species-appropriate diet, i.e. grass. Cows are not programmed to digest anything but grass and other herbiage. Not grain, and whatever else they get fed in feedlots, which in themselves are an insult to animal welfare. Grass-fed beef is also healthier, less fatty and with the correct balance of omegas, which become out of whack even if they are only "finished" on grain, etc. Furthermore, exclusively grass-fed cattle expel way, way less methane than those fed on grain.

We have been feeding raw for 20 years! Never had a problem. Quite the contrary. We’ve had up to 9 dogs in our own family and fostered and found homes for about 50. They came to us in really bad shape and always got healthy after changing their diets to raw! Raw meat and bones is “species appropriate”. That’s why! Kibble is junk food for dogs. I used to make my own raw food but I buy raw now because it’s more convenient. The FDA is clueless about nutrition. They’re protecting the huge dry dog food industry. If they take away our God given right to buy raw dog food, caring pet parents will NEVER go back to feeding processed kibble. We’ll just go back to making our own and they can’t stop that! We’re converts now and we’ve seen the difference raw feeding makes! Thank God for companies like Answers who are standing up for healthy pets!

Our pets are our children, there is no reason why this topic and pet food can't be regulated.

Good luck, I'm from Australia and we usually follow what the US do eventually, I would be horrified if I couldn't feed raw, disgraceful

I live in Canada so will not be impacted by this law (yet) but you can bet the veterinary medical profession is cheering this on as the reasons are exactly what they tell pet owners all the time about feeding raw, how poison it is. I completely agree with Answers, stop this idiocy from the goverment, isn't this what everyone in your republican faction wants, keeping the gov't out of the people business. this is all a money grab just like the FDA report on DCM that tried to finger those 16 kibble producers. that whole debaucle was sponsored by Mars Nestle and all the crap kibble producers just to shut down good honest pet food manufactures. I feed my Maremma raw food plus a little grain free kibble and have since 12weeks old and she is now 6yrs and never been ill, so I will continue to do so. Keep up the fight guys.
