If NYC and NYS have the funds to pay to house the homeless in hotels ( up to $5000 a month).
, it seems a more economical and long term solution would be to put those funds in a long ter. Housing solution.

The overhang between 79 th and 78 th street on broadway is now overrun with maskless men. They do not move when you get to the top of one train exit. They are smoking pot and cigarettes not social distancing maskless. And they have now put out folding chairs and sit there. Literally how this is allowed to go on. In lain sight is astounding

I have two young children and I can’t turn a corner without worrying about what type of scene we may be expose to. What is happening to the UWS is inadmissible.

The increased density of homeless men in an already dense neighborhood is a problem, particularly because maskwearing and social distancing are rare. The fact that they add to garbage-strewn streets does not help. The fact that they are idle is a poor reflection on city efforts to help the homeless. Versions of The Doe Fund’s proven programs should be brought on board.
The billions spent annually on reducing homelessness have little in the way of positive result and should be fully rethought with input from the homeless when possible.

It is dreadful that the residents of the Upper West Side were not consulted and advised about turning area hotels into homeless shelters. This changes the family style neighborhood and community into a dangerous place where numerous unsupervised individuals who are possible drug addicts; mentally unstable ;sexual perverts or criminals have been transported.
Neighborhood residents are put into potential dangerous situations where many of these disturbed homeless people have been placed.
The harmonious UWS has been placed in danger by turning the area hotels into poorly supervised homeless shelters.

Nothing wrong with providing a challenged population with necessary social services, but it has to be done in a more thoughtful way.

I understand the gravity of the homeless situation in nyc, however such a large concentration placed in a small area is a blight on the neighborhood!!

Very dangerous and bad atmosphere on the UWS due to homeless people being sheltered here. Needles and bags on the street all over.

We are a young family with an eight year old daughter, six year old sone and four year old son. We have made the UWS home and want to stay a part of this wonderful community. Please help families like us know we can live here in good conscience as parents by helping make the UWS safe for children again.
