Because not everyone has aadhar while everyone does have other Id proofs. First get aadhar to every citizen and the talk about compulsion.

The use of UID number to mark and track each student is part of a larger population management and control mechanism that the Indian state is trying to implement. We strongly feel that this is another ploy to force students to enrol for Aadhaar.

making sharing of UID/Aadhaar numbers by students mandatory for semester registration and collection of university documents is violation of the democratic rights of the students who cannot be forced to enroll for UID/Aadhaar numbers, as per Supreme Court orders mentioned.

Quite apart from what the Supreme Court may or may not say on Aadhar, it puts personal information and wealth at great risk making way for identity fraud, theft and unwelcome monitoring of one's activities.

Aadhar has not reached all parts of India, especially remote places and until everyone has the card, it shouldn't be made mandatory for anything. Moreover it's not a lucrative idea to know that this is just a very special way of aiding R&D Dept of corporate firms.

The order of JNU Admin to link with the aadhar card is not in tandem with the Supreme Court ruling and most importantly this decision would result in causing a lot of trouble to students of JNU unnecessarily. So, may you please withdraw this immediately.
