On February 3, 2020, the Kenmore City Council pull the plug on an environmental impact study that would have answered key environmental questions for a proposed sports field project at St. Edwards Park in Kenmore, WA. This shocking vote brought to an end a 16-year effort on the part of community members to ensure that our children had access to safe and quality fields in a city with a drastic shortage of such fields. In the words of Deputy Mayor Nigel Herbig, “Aborting the process right now, in the middle of the EIS [process], is against the council’s word from a year ago, and is not really how we build trust as a council when it comes to policy making." Urge the city to keep its word. Let the city know that waiting 16-years is long enough and that they must fulfill their promise now to the thousands of local children and family members that must travel to fields outside of Kenmore to take part in enriching sports programs.
