Two daughters, both now HS students. Two athletes. Two team players. Two girls who started playing Little League at five, both on the chilly upper fields at Pier 40. What could be more important than giving our kids the opportunity to play?

1.2 million kids in NYC. Where are the fields and the permits?

Dear HRPT, CB2, and elected officials, I am writing to you today as a parent of a downtown youth athlete. As the future of Pier 40 is in limbo and any restoration or redevelopment project of the pier is years away from completion, it is imperative that the programming of the Gansevoort Peninsula include a full sized field (75 x 120 yards) that can be covered with a bubble in the winter. The population of downtown Manhattan is ever increasing, downtown youth sports programs are at full capacity, and the existing fields at Pier 40 do not meet the demands. Gansevoort Peninsula is the last space within Hudson River Park that can accommodate a full sized field. Let’s not squander this opportunity, especially since the fields at Pier 40 will be closed either partially or fully during future renovations. The time is now to address this issue of lack of adequate field space in downtown Manhattan so that our kids and future generations can grow up healthy and active, playing the sports they love. Thank you for your support. Manny Herrera

IT is CRUCIAL to make sure that you add a full size soccer field that can accommodate baseball and softball. There are not enough fields for kids to play organized sports.

Pier 40 is an aging facility and too crowded with softball, baseball, and soccer going on at the same time. Our kids need more space for team sports!

As the parent of two athletic teens, I'm writing to say there's a need for field space downtown. Our kids have used Pier 40 fields for years, and once those fields are closed, we hope that there will be a full-sized playing field for all kids in the community to enjoy.

It's amazing that NYC produces as many good baseball players as it does considering the lack of fields and poor quality of those those that exist. The GVLL has grown tremendously with the increase in people living downtown. More field space is desperately needed.

Field space for our children is desperately needed. The huge amount of development is having significant impact on our neighborhoods and we need to be sure the residents aren't lost in the shuffle.

The kids need a place to play! Not just places for tourists to visit.

The lack of field space is terrible in that it limits the development of kids’ team building skills and learning to work within a group. There is never enough space to practice, which is the essence of team building. We only got to play games in GVLL softball and even that was a scramble. We need new athletic space and as much as possible.

With the obesity crisis and kids on electronic devices (also a crisis), having space for outdoor sports should be a top priority! The youth fields are in constant use because the kids really need them!

Please let our kids play minor league at hudson river park. This is essential to own children's well being growing up in the city.

As a parent who has watched my kids grow up enjoying the physical participation of team sports, I realize how dependent our community is on the limited outdoor space downtown. It is critically necessary to have more and better field space available for our downtown community.

what we need in the fastest growing board district in manhattan are more fields for the children that live downtown.
