We just moved here from Texas and Pier 40 soccer fields and battery park city ball fields were the deciding factors to live/play in manhattan versus NJ. When you have kids older than 8, you look for solid team sports (and spaces) as much as you look for good schools. Large sport spaces create a sense of community, safety and commitment.

Dear HRPT, CB2, & NYC Officials,
Please see the attached link from the National Council of Youth Sports detailing the benefit of youth sport as there is not enough room here to detail the powerful, positive connection between the many great qualities of organized youth sports participation, good character development, better health, and academic success detailed on this link:
https://www.ncys.org/publications/the-benefits-of-youth-sports.php
We are all fortunate to live in one of the best all-around cities in our country and world as you know. But, growing up as a child in lower Manhattan is becoming more and more challenging with regards to having the ability to play youth sports due to a serious lack of field space and space in general for kids.
There is a desperate need for field space for the children of lower Manhattan. The Gansevoort Peninsula is the last opportunity to fulfill this need as including a full sized field (75 x 120 yards) that can be covered with a bubble in the winter would solve so many issues for our children allowing them to grow up healthy and active.
I don't know if you are aware of this but due to a total lack of field space, our children and phenomenal youth sports organizations are literally having to find (if lucky) and attempt to play in school cafeterias as an example, as the need for space for youth sport has grown to this level of challenge today (and we still have Pier 40 now) with regards to a total lack of space and it's just not right that this is how our children should be growing up due to a severe lack of field space in our community. It's beyond challenging now, I can't even imagine what it would be like if something happened to Pier 40 as that would really be a full blown crisis for our children.
Our sports organizations are doing all they can to find, identify, and utilize any nook of possible space for our kids to remain active. We really need your help as this struggle to have basic field space s
