It is critical to have sport fields, if the city is supposed to be a place where families can live.

I can't tell you how important open and available sports fields are to the lives of my 5 and 7 year old boys living Downtown. They are their happiest when they are running across a field chasing a ball with friends. Please, help us downtown families give our children more opportunities to play, compete, win, lose and learn together on playing fields along the Hudson River - their personal, emotional, physical development depends on it!

Dear HRPT, CB2, and elected officials,
I am writing to you today as a parent of a downtown youth athlete. As the future of Pier 40 is in limbo and any restoration or redevelopment project of the pier is years away from completion, it is imperative that the programming of the Gansevoort Peninsula include a full sized field (75 x 120 yards) that can be covered with a bubble in the winter. The population of downtown Manhattan is ever increasing, downtown youth sports programs are at full capacity, and the existing fields at Pier 40 do not meet the demands. Gansevoort Peninsula is the last space within Hudson River Park that can accommodate a full sized field. Let’s not squander this opportunity, especially since the fields at Pier 40 will be closed either partially or fully during future renovations. The time is now to address this issue of lack of adequate field space in downtown Manhattan so that our kids and future generations can grow up healthy and active, playing the sports they love.
Thank you for your support.

Recreation is so important to children, and we need more space for fields in this neighborhood. PLEASE put a field on the pier - it will benefit the physical and mental health and wellness of the entire community.
