Fort Hunt Youth Sports Parents - did you know that when you register your child for a Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association (FHYAA) sport, YOU become a “member” of the organization and acquire the legal right to vote and have a say in who manages OUR FHYAA organization?

The rules of FHYAA call for a 21-member Board of Directors to manage the affairs of FHYAA, with the election of Board Members every year. Officially (before the October annual meeting) the Board should have formed a nominating committee; presented candidates; and then YOU, as a member of FHYAA, have a vote in who is elected to the Board.

This member organization IS A DEMOCRACY – and YOU have a VOTE!

This process has not been followed by the FHYAA Board in recent years and NO ELECTION was held at the recent annual meeting of the Board held in October. In fact, the Board only lists 8 members on the FHYAA.org website - not the required 21 members.

THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE FHYAA AN EVEN BETTER PLACE FOR OUR KIDS - Please take this opportunity to make FHYAA the best place for our kids to learn sports by completing the Petition included in this email AND forward it to everyone you know in Fort Hunt Sports!!!

These petitions will be collected and delivered to the FHYAA Board of Directors on behalf of the hundreds of parents/members, and they will constitute the memberships’ collective request that the Board immediately impanel a nominating committee and hold an annual election to fill all vacancies on the Board.

If you are interested in serving on the nominating committee or running for an open Board seat, this is your opportunity to do so, and all parents are encouraged to consider this wonderful opportunity. Please put "I am interested in serving on the Board" or "I am interested in serving on the Nominating Committee" in the Comment field as you sign the petition below. We do not believe that tired, worn excuse that no one is interested in participating or running-We know our Fort Hunt parents better than that, and we look forward to putting together a great team to manage OUR sports leagues.

NOW is a great opportunity for you - the Parents - to take an active role in this important part of your child’s development and to make OUR neighborhood FHYAA the best it can be. Thank you for your attention to this important and exciting opportunity to make FHYAA an even better place for our kids to learn sports, sportsmanship, and have fun!

THE PETITION:

To: FHYAA Board of Directors

From: Members of FHYAA

Members of the FHYAA hereby request that the Board immediately:

1. Create a nominating committee in accordance with Article VI of the bylaws for the purpose of nominating candidates to fill all vacancies on the Board of Directors to ensure that the required 21-member Board is duly elected in accordance with the bylaws.

2. Give fair consideration to allowing all parents/members who indicate their desire to be part of the nominating committee, and depending on the number of members with such interest, permit as many parents (5 - 10 are suggested) to participate in this nomination process as is practicable.

3. Let ALL parents know that they are eligible to run for election to the FHYAA Board.

4. Hold another annual meeting in accordance with rules and bylaws and follow Article IV of the bylaws, after giving proper notice and voting ballots to the membership as provided in Articles IV and VI of the bylaws.

5. In addition to any notification requirements set forth in the bylaws, post all of the following information on the FHYAA website in a manner readily available to the membership:

(a) names of all those selected to serve on the nominating committee;
(b) the names of all candidates for the Board along with any information about the candidates that such candidates may request be published;
(c) full and complete election results after such election, including the total number of members that signed the membership meeting log, the total number of member ballots cast, and the name of each candidate receiving votes and the total number of votes received.

6. Do all of the foregoing as soon as practicable so as to protect the interests of all members of FHYAA and ensure that a duly elected Board is managing the affairs of FHYAA.

7. Until such time as the newly elected Board is organized, the members request that the existing Board take no action whatsoever that requires a vote of the Board or of the general membership, including no action to amend the bylaws.
