Fewer exams - More projects - Better school performance
My petition aims to lessen the exam burden that students have to carry on their shoulders to prove their knowledge of a specific topic at a given date.
It has been scientifically proven that exam stress is terribly damaging to pupils' psychology and fails to assess correctly their knowledge on a specific subject matter. Sadly, in most cases, teachers tend to grade their pupils for the whole semester based on a 50- or even 100-minute dry exam situation which is just not enough to assess a pupil's performance. High stress levels or personal issues may not allow the student to show what they know on a specific day and time.
In contrast, a topic-oriented project, focussed on the subject matter which pupils have to master in a specific unit over a longer period of time, consisting of various parts and engaging all 4 skills, is more appropriate thanks to the stress-free conditions and flexibility it entails. Projects are the best way to allow students to show their inner self and talents and accommodate different learning approaches.
