Fill in or Drain the Quarry- For the safety of others

Looks like they started draining the Barrhaven quarry this week. They had a large diesel pump there this morning (July 10 2020) pulling water out and dumping it into a drainage ditch. This pump wasn't there a few days ago the last time I passed by. Looks like Mattamy Homes is getting ready to develop this area.

A horrible and tragic event. Putting up a fence may prevent a similar occurrence. Do the right thing Mattamy.

Someone died here.... no questions asked it should be closed....this is ridiculous a petition has to be filled.

...and will you fill in and/or drain all lakes and ponds in Ontario - there are quite a few - in the name of not taking personal responsibility for one's own safety? So foolish.

Enough is enough. Signs and fences don't prevent kids from being put in harm's way. Surely something can be done to lower the water level!

Yeah, at least child proof the thing already. Im sure the guy can afford a fence. I bet he could probably even affor rent a cops to patrol it if they even cared.

At least put up a high enough fence young children won't be able to get past.

Fill in the quarry.

I don't think fencing the quarry is a good idea. But I also don't think that's the point of the petition. The petition isn't to necessarily create a physical barrier despite its purpose. The owners of the quarry can't deny people are swimming in their privately owned quarry. Hopefully they will think of some ways to make it safer after seeing this. A person who wants to go will go no matter what, a fence won't stop them. But I hope this makes the owners stop and think "hey, people are swimming there no matter what we say. What can we do to make it safer knowing that people go there despite the fact that it isn't safe? People will go anyways... so what can we do?" I think this is a great effort. Don't take everything so literally, I highly doubt they will put up a fence. But this is a great way to get their attention.

Condolences to family and friends. But, fencing the quarry, or any of the many lakes and rivers in which people drown each year is impractical...really a foolish idea that doesn't address the personal responsibility for one's own safety.

Avoid another tragedy!

Mattamy homes should have put up a fence along with the signs instead of just putting up signs. My sympathies to the family and friends of a young man gone too soon.

R.I.P Jimmy . It should be drained and demolish complelty to avoid any further incidents.

Please act to fence off the quarry and spare any more parents the heartache of having to outlive their children.
