Feeling Lousey? End Head Lice in School

My grandchildren have all had several rounds of lice, mom followed all the procedures to rid them, only to get them again from someone at school. Treatment is expensive , inconvenient, uncomfortable and just plain gross. Start doing head checks and sending kids home until it is cleared up

We have had 2 cases of head lice and my wife runs a daycare as well...we fully understand this situation.

my girls have had it three times in less than a year. Luckily I comb and check them once every two weeks ago so we catch it early and get rid of them early. Parents need to take responsibility and be checking their children on a regular basis and treating the lice if they find them. If you can't afford the expensive shampoos, saturating the entire head of hair with mouthwash (with alcohol, any brand works!), and wearing a shower cap for a minimum of two hours kills the live lice and nits and is much less expensive.

This careless disregard for the parents of children who take the time and spend the funds to ensure their children do not infest another child with these bugs.

How about we protect our kids and not allow children with lice at school until Treated. Our wold will become infested with lice...

I think it should happen cause it's easy to shave and treat my boys when they get it but my daughter it gets exhausting and myself and all the laundry and that means water bill goes up and more it's time to get a handle on it even if it is just live to some people

It's also unfair to the child because of the school does not make a deal of it then some parents just give up the battle and let the lice stay in their hair...and it becomes their normal.

I have been dealing with daughter and having them since she started school. I had to cut her hair which was up to her bum. I've tried everything except shaving her hair. She has really thick curly hair. I have called the school. It seems like no matter what there are some parents out there that think it is OK and to just let them suffer. That is total bs. I will continental with her treatments every 2 weeks due to the fact it keeps it from going crazy and seems to prevent them. But God forbid I miss one treatment they are back full force.

I agree! No lice in schools. Like everything else they should have to stay home if infected with live lice and nits .

I agree with this! Lice is very time consuming and stressful.

As a hairstylist and a Mom this dose not stop unless ppl are educated and treat the lice properly ..

I no longer have school aged children, however, I did with the issue of lice when my own children went. It needs to be treated as it can spread. I don't recall how many times I had to treat my kids, myself, and the entire household.

Parents who have children with head lice should be made to keep their children home until they can prove that it has been taken care of & gone.

I've spent hundreds of dollars on lice treatments. Last year alone my daughter had lice 5 times. In one school year. All because one family refused to properly treat their children for lice. Unfair for that child as well, as once the kids and parents learned where the issue was coming from nobody wanted their kids to be around that child. If the school can't send kids home for having lice they should at least have treatments at the school and take matters into their own hands to deal with the problem.

I think it's absolutely ludicrous that they aren't sending kids home with head lice. I am a licensed hair stylist and those kids would not be aloud back in my chair until they have Been treated as it can spread so quickly, so why are they allowing this in schools when they know the facts. Would you put on someone else's hat knowing they have head lice? No, probably not since you wouldn't want to get it, so why would you keep the child in school and risk other kids getting it when it could have been dealt with. Would you let your dog play with your Kids or other dogs knowing it had fleas? No you wouldn't, because you wouldn't want to risk it spreading. Yes, some kids miss too much school, but if they are sick or are being treated for something like head lice, I believe it should be an automatic ok. I 100% believe, if your child has head lice they should be sent home to be treated and not aloud back until it has been treated. At the same time, the child needs to know its easy to treat and there's nothing wrong with them so they're not embarrassed. Leaving the kids at school is just opening doors for teasing when it doesn't need to be that way!

I am sick of lice!! It cost me over $300 to get rid of it on my 2 kids. If you want kids with live in school then YOU pay for the treatment and YOU come do all the work it takes to get rid of it!!!

Yes this cycle needs to end!

I work in a daycare and yes the repeats are unbearable and need to be treated and nits removed before coming back
