We need to stop the fast food corporations from destroying our historical downtown and destroying the health of our local residents. Our city and residents deserve better!

You can get fast food anywhere, including the school lunches served in Watsonville, so why add to the problem? Show tourists that you care enough about the city and the people who live there to create a downtown that celebrates their culture with healthy, authentic food options. It's in the middle of the county's supposed "salad bowl" after all.

As a garden ed and nutrition educator in the county I believe that the population of Watsonville deserves better. Does anyone feel that it is too hard to get to the McDonalds and similar fast food restaurants that already exist around town?

As an employee at Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF), I work every day to strive to build a healthy and equitable food system here in the Pajaro Valley. Working closely with the school district here in Watsonville (PVUSD), we strive to teach students about the importance of healthy eating, build connections to agriculture in our region and to make healthy choices available at school. But, the school district cannot compete with fast food. In addition to feeling passionate about serving students healthy meals, the district is required by federal law to follow specific nutrition standards; standards that fast food offerings don't even come close to meeting. At the district, we already have to compete with junk food advertising when educating about the importance of healthy behaviors; please don't make the jobs of the health and nutrition advocates in Watsonville harder. More fast food in Watsonville will do nothing to support the economic livelihoods of family farmers or the health of the citizens who live here.
