We, the undersigned, hereby petition the Fond du Lac,WI City Council for ordinance amendments to allow leashed dogs in designated areas of City parks as follows:
- All breeds of dogs are allowed in City-owned or operated parks at all times the parks are open to the public.
- Dogs must be kept on leashes of no more than 6’ in length.
- Dogs are to be allowed on all sidewalks, trails, and open greenspace or grassy areas with the park.
- Dogs must wear owner identification tags, current rabies vaccination tags, and current City of Fond du Lac pet license tags.
- Dogs must be under adult supervision at all times.
- Owners/handlers must immediately clean up any fecal waste from their dogs.
- Owners/handlers must prevent their dogs from digging holes and from chasing or disturbing wildlife.
- Service animals are allowed with their owners/handlers in all publicly accessible areas at all times the parks are open to the public.
We understand that certain limitations on dog access to City-owned parks is necessary or desirable for sanitary and/or safety-related reasons. We therefore accept the following restrictions:
- Dogs are not allowed in Lakeside Park during special events (Walleye Weekend, Art on the Island, Fondue Fest, etc.)
- Dogs are prohibited from the mulched, sanded, or rubberized surfaces of playground areas at all times.
- Dogs are prohibited from solid-surface sports courts (basketball, tennis, etc.) at all times.
- Dogs are prohibited from entering sports fields or tracks (soccer, baseball, football, etc.) during games or events at these facilities.
- Dogs are prohibited from entering the Lakeside Park Lighthouse, gazebo, bandstand, pavilions, water fountain features, petting zoo, and children’s amusement park area at all times.
- Dogs are prohibited from entering restrooms, concession stands, and other indoor park facilities at all times.
- Except in designated dog-friendly picnic areas, dogs are prohibited from entering picnic shelters. Dogs are not allowed on any tables or benches within City parks.
- Dangerous dogs, as defined in Fond du Lac Municipal Code §216-6, are prohibited from all City parks at all times.

Seeing this much backing makes the frustration of these past few weeks feel a little more bearable. It is exhausting work to keep pushing against the city council but knowing so many of you want the same parks as I do keeps me moving forward.

Let's at least give this a try with a trial period! Let's tell those who visit FDL that we are a Dog-Friendly City.
Allowing dogs in the parks increases visitors. It is not healthy for dogs to be left in hot cars while out of town owners visit the parks.
Follow the rules and we will all live happily. If you have a dog that is not social don't take them to the park to terrorize other dogs or folks who are enjoying the space. Only you know how your dog will react to other dogs, smaller dogs or children. Be respectful of others, and pay attention to your dog, and what's happening in the area that may cause a dog to become stressed and reactive. Your dog is your responsibility!
Most of the restrictions are ok, but there's no reason to restrict dogs from the shelters or sitting on a bench. What if there's a family gathering in one of the shelters? I don't support this restriction, everything else is OK.
This is a very good thing for Fond du Lac! I would like everyone to realize that we are not the only city in WI or the U.S. to want leashed dogs in parks. It is everywhere and if it was such a big problem, I am sure we would hear about it all over the news. We can't improve our city and keep up with the times if people just want everything to remain stagnant in our fine city. Let's do this Fondy!!!
Please ....dogs are part of the family...what a great way to have family gathering... visitors that travel with there pets... how perfect for them to enjoy our parks...

I'd love to take my well behaved buddy for a run up the hill in Buttermilk. What a great way to get him (and me) some exercise! It'd be nice to include him on our family walks to the park. This is worth serious consideration in my opinion.
