Due to dramatic increase of living cost, we have to struggle to meet the expenses with the provided stipend. Housing costs are extremely high , same as for the vehicle insurance and student health insurance. I highly recommend and deeply request to consider increasing student stipend due to all these difficulties graduate students are experiencing and the workload they are covering for the respective departments.

In a semester, I have to spend for room rent ($1000*6=$6000), tuition fee ($950), medical insurance ($1500) and living ($900). Total is $9300. I get $6600 as stipend. Now judge everybody what is my situation now.

I have been fortunate to be a FAU graduate student and a graduate teaching assistant for longer time. But regarding the stipend, it was extremely difficult to survive specially as an international student. With the health insurance bills and housing rents being extremely expensive stipend makes it difficult to manage expenses. So I highly recommend for a stipend increase for graduate student considering the living cost and other bills and their work load.

It's not just the grad students who are being abused. I'm currently doing the work of an associate director after the associate director for my program left but only making $8.25 an hour.

As the parent of a FAU grad student, I must concur. I've seen my son live in an 8 X 20 room which barely qualifies as housing, in order to stretch his stipend dollars. As a long-time single parent, I wish that I could help. I also recognize that he works extremely hard and long hours for not much more than "fame and glory," such as it is, in order to make up the educational economic gap that I cannot provide. Let's show these students and the academic world that FAU can be a leader in this area.

As a faculty member I support the graduate students in their efforts to improve their working conditions. Their contributions to the FAU community are substantial, and their financial status at FAU certainly deserves a proper hearing and appropriate action to make their ability to afford an education and support themselves possible.

FAU has been trying to posture itself as a competitive state institution in Florida for a while now. I think it has met with reasonable success - raising these stipends would prove FAU's commitment to high quality and supportive graduate programs.

Being an engineering GRA student, I would like to request to disseminate this information to all engineering RA,TA students so that they must be involved to this particular movement. I must say, It's really appreciable movement done by the volunteers. It's high time to coordinate the tasks and approach to the concerned authority.
