STOP THE PROPOSED 144TH PARK-N-RIDE STATION!
\"Concerned Citizens for Middle School Safety\" is launching a petition drive to tell RTD, FasTracks, and City of Thornton officials that we are ADAMANTLY OPPOSED to putting a commuter train station at 144th Avenue or directly next to Rocky Top Middle School in Thornton, Colorado. This station, if built, would be surrounded solely by single family, residential neighborhoods. Our group and the residents of Thornton are concerned about the safety and well-being of our middle school students now and in the future. RTD/FasTracks is proposing that up to 600 parking spaces be built at this station, in addition to lanes for busses to drop off additional patrons. The 144th Ave. station is to be built directly next to Rocky Top Middle School, which currently consists of 900 children, with up to 1250 students projected during the proposed time of construction and completion. Children will not only have easy access to the station, but will need to pass through the main intersection where this station is proposed to get to school. Additionally, students will have to pass by and are likely to walk through the parking lot to get to school, exposing them to the dangers and crime that have historically been linked to Park-n-Ride locations throughout the state. This proposed stop is not needed, as there are additional stations to be built both 2 miles north and 2 miles south of 144th. This Petition will be presented to FasTracks officials, to the RTD Board, and to the Thornton City Council in an effort to stop proposed plans to build a FasTracks station at 144th Ave. Please join this petition drive and have your voice heard! RTD WILL BE MAKING A FINAL DECISION ON THIS STATION SOON!!!
