Dear Fall City Park Supporters, It is urgent that you please take several minutes to insure that the Fall City Community Park, including its public equestrian riding arena and ball field, does not go away! In 1977 King County purchased 27.5 acres of land across the river from downtown Fall City and named it the Fall City Community Park. The Fall City community joined together to construct a public horse riding arena and a ball field which enjoy both local and regional use. Recent budget pressures have prompted the County to give Fall City Park away. On September 24th the Director of the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks issued a declaration allowing the County to transfer the Fall City Park to the Snoqualmie Tribe. Among the most troublesome aspects of this proposed transfer agreement is: • The proposed transfer only requires continued equestrian use "until another public recreation use is identified and selected". • The proposed transfer of the 27.5 acres of parklands states that "The Park would continue to be used for park and recreation purposes unless other equivalent lands or facilities within the county are received in exchange" In other words, the Tribe could offer the public a parcel anywhere in King County in exchange and our park would be lost forever. • The Tribe is not a public entity and therefore not subject to public accountability or oversight. In February of 2009 there will be a Special Election to create a Fall City Park District with elected commissioners to take over management of the Park and ensure that our soccer fields, baseball fields and equestrian arena are here to stay. But King County Council is poised to give our park away before you have a chance to vote. We are asking for your help by taking 3 simple steps: 1. SIGN THIS PETITION. By signing, answering the questions and sharing your comments you join with many other citizens in quantifying the value of this public amenity for both local and regional users. You DO NOT have to be a resident of Fall City to sign this petition - just a park lover. 2. FORWARD THIS PETITION to other Park supporters, equestrians and ball park users and ask for their support. Simply click on the "email friends" tab above just below the green banner. 3. EMAIL OR WRITE A LETTER to members of the King County Council right away. Visit our website at http://www.fallcityparks.org to find links to all of the King County Council members as well as a sample letter. PLEASE act today and send a letter or email to EACH Councilmember. ****Note that you do not have to make a donation to iPetitions.com to sign the petition. Any donations made go to iPetitions.com and are completely unrelated to Fall City Park transfer. After signing the petition you can simply exit the web site rather than opting for a donation**
