We need to have our Churches open to be able to practise our faith and to support each other. At this time of uncertainty and hardship for many, social interaction is imperative for our health and welfare. We need the spiritual benefits of our Sacraments.

We need to celebrate the sacraments and be able to receive our Lord Jesus and the sacraments. Our community needs to gather for Baptisms, weddings and funerals. Our elderly are finding it so hard and struggle with technology to tune into Home mass.

People of faith need their faith community to sustain them. There is no reason we cannot be as safe or safer than restaurants, supermarkets and cafes. This restriction is unfair and unfeeling. Please open our churches – most of them can fit between 50 to 100 safely distanced.

Let Catholic churches and other faith based organisations have equitable treatment with pubs and cafes. Religion and places of worship provide find meaning and hope for those of faith in times of adversity. This is therefore an essential service as it contributes to the overall health of an individual.
