Letter to Obama: No Fairness Doctrine
President-elect Obama, The campaign is over. It is now time to focus on where our nation will go from here. We disagree on many things, but if we are to take you at your word, we agree in the fundamental importance of encouraging open and honest debate in a Democratic society. There are those in Congress, who do not seem to feel this way. We believe this to be the case due to the recent calls for reinstating the so-called 'Fairness Doctrine'. The Fairness Doctrine, is far from fair, it lies a great distance from liberty. It will be used to shut out the voice of the opposition. Those are tactics of Chavez, not a self-styled post-partisan leader. We recall the words of your election victory speech: I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. We are now waiting and watching. President-elect Obama, do not reinstate the Fairness Doctrine. You were not our candidate, but you are our president. Represent us all, not the clamoring partisans in Washington. Citizens of the United States
