We, in Singapore, often have to rely on help from foreign domestic workers (FDW) especially in cases where we have young kids or elderly who we are responsible for.

It also seems that the embassies of the countries that allow their citizens to work in Singapore as FDW are able to change their rules and regulations at whim, without the need to consult with the country that provides their citizens and reciprocally their families with a livelihood.

We, as employers of FDW in Singapore, would like also to foster good relations with our helpers. Most of the time we treat them as family. And most of the time we are taken advantage of. These FDW are trained by their agencies to run to HOME, or their embassy or whatever organization that offers them protection. What about us employers? We cannot continue to be forced into a situation where we face immense psychological and mental stress dealing with errant FDW who come to Singapore on the pretext of employment while performing deeds that are morally unjust.

The objective of this petition is to alert the government that the regulations regarding FDW are seemingly useless in ensuring that these FDW are here in Singapore to earn an honest living.

We request for a meet-the-people's session to have an honest and open dialogue over the grievances of FDW employers and to start a committee to oversee the re-alignment of the employment regulations to bring more balance to the rights of employers.

We hope that the Public Petitions Committee of the Singapore Parliament will be aware that this is a BIG problem and one that many of us have to bear with as there is no other choice other than to QUIT working and stop contributing to our economy.
