We the undersigned protest the unconscionable tax increase implemented by the Borough of Fair Lawn, NJ in August, 2012 for tax year 2012/2013. As businesses struggle to survive from the myriad of taxing authorities, increased product prices, insurance, repairs and utilities, it is becoming increasingly difficult to stay in business. Some businesses received an unbelievable property tax increase in excess of 19%, while having the value of their property decreased. The municipal tax went from .619 to .826. Business property taxes bring into the community $660,691,298. This represents an $154,024,387 increase over the prior year. Businesses have no voting power yet bear a huge tax burden. Assuming Fair Lawn wants businesses to survive and provide community benefits, we are requesting a decrease in our property tax assessments.

19 percent is absolutely criminal. how are the local shops supposed to keep the doors open with these kinds of numbers? fix this now.
