Free Press journalists took on increasingly challenging work, sometimes with true risk to our health and well-being, in the past several years with many not getting raises. This effort and dedication, key to Gannett’s continued success, deserves to be recognized through compensation. In addition, Gannett calls into question advocacy it has done for work-life balance when it forces reporters to make their personal phones their work phones. The move comes at a time of increased harassment directed at reporters and makes them more vulnerable to around-the-clock attacks. We ask for a fair contract and conditions that support the worker, and therefore an informed community.
