Finding a Fair and Safe Solution to Oakland Homeless Encampments

part of this problem at least in the west oakland , magnolia st area lies at the feet of the city . For originally allowing the expansion of the Allied metals 20 years ago . It was the beginning of the blighting of the neighborhood . Its time to stop the city from continuing to ruin our and other areas bye there poor planning

This is a colossal failure of public policy which daily grows worse. Neighborhoods all over California are victimized by the rising tide of campers on and in the public right of way. Surely we can do better than this!

These encampments pose a serious safety hazard to our streets, neighborhoods, and children. Currently, we are unable to walk to the grocery due to the encampments near Peralta and Magnolia Streets.

Please do the right and responsible thing to keep ALL citizens safe!

As you sign, also consider volunteering some time to help when the call goes out- what the City can't/won't do, we may have to do ourselves

The problem is worsening by the day.

Please take action before someone inevitable gets hurt in, or as a result of, these pervasive and dangerous encampments.

I'm signing conditionally, as I believe it can only help move our City in the direction of the concrete solutions we've long advocated in the West Oakland Business Alert program. It's not fair to simply say, "Do something!" to our City if there are specific steps that must inevitably lead to the highest and best results – and those steps must logically embrace a community / agency / policymaker Task Force to deal most pragmatically with homelessness, and blight simultaneously, to include also the root causes of that dynamic as well as the means by which we can most effectively deal with its consequences.

The answer is compassion and realizing it's not going to go away. And with empathetic heart I hope that the city of Oakland finds a solution sooner than later It is what it is... I pray this helps .

Compassion means a roof over someone's head, indoor plumbing, proper cooking facilities, and heating.

There is a model to be made.

I understand the huge problem that this has become; however, I do not believe the solution is to do nothing.

Please, keep our streets clean and safe.

Most of the trash comes from people dumping trash where the city is unable to keep up a standard of cleanliness. This wouldn't be an issue if the city had resources, and political will, to enforce anti-dumping laws and/or maintain services and regular trash pickup.

If you can't move the homeless, start enforcing littering laws. Clean up the garbage or insist that the homeless clean up in exchange for camping rights.
