The students of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University would like the return of the ten point grading scale. Recently the university has moved to a plus and minus grading scale, with claims that this new grading scale offers several advantages for faculty and students. The state of North Carolina's high schools are allowing the 10 point grading scale, because they feel that the ten point grading scale will make their students more competitive. With other institutions moving from a seven point scale to a ten point scale, competitiveness is promoted amongst the students. Why would our university move away from the ten point grading scale when this scale puts a more stringent policy in place, preventing graduates from being as competitive. The plus and minus system is supposed to push students to make a higher grade. When in reality receiving an education is more about getting an understanding of the information. North Carolina Board of Education feels that the ten point grading scale would give students a greater advantage. Although 10/16 schools have switched to the plus/minus system, we should not conform to the trend. This grading system does not enhance the GPA of the students at this university.NCA&TSU has never been a university to follow trends, we have been the university that marches to the beat of our own drum.
