The aim of this petition is to raise awareness about the lack of facilities available to working mothers who breastfeed and regularly attend courts within NSW. As a working mum, and a Solicitor, it is deplorable to be forced to express milk for my child,in the public toilets due to a lack of facilities. Please sign this petition so that we can get as many signatures as possible to raise awareness on the issue, and attempt to have a room dedicated in all courts across NSW for this purpose. A copy of the petition will also be forwarded to the Womens Lawyers Association.

I am a breastfeeding Mum and was working whilst breastfeeding my son. In a hospital of all places. And there was nowhere private for me to feed. I often had to find an empty office where people would come in and out so i couldn't relax and as such my supply diminished
BF Lawyer here. Courts and law firms alike could do more to facilitate working BF mums, it's hard enough having to return to work and sacrifice each and every break to expressing, let alone use inadequate or basically non-existence facilities to do so! Employer support goes a long way to the success of a BF relationship.
I believe this is incredibly important and also would apply to lactating women who are called for jury duty as well as for women attending court for ANY reason.
As a lactation consultant, I am appalled that breastfeeding women are not supported. The provision of safe, hygienic, private spaces to breastfeed and express should be a basic right for all women - the toilet does not meet this criteria.
I'm surprised that a place of law, legalities and human rights has looked over the fact that a mother has the right to breastfeed her child or express in a clean, comfortable space. The bathroom is not a place for meals and it is not a place to breastfeed a child or express.
As a soon to be mum and a junior lawyer in SA, I would love to see this in all States.
This should be happening in all states. I'm from tasmania.

We make up the majority of entrants and graduates from law school in Australia, and have for over a decade. The majority of us will have children at some point. We shouldn't have to choose between our jobs and our children when the solution is as simple as providing a room. It's time the court system caught up with us.
