This petition asks that Facebook change its practice of blocking friend requests and messages.
Currently Facebook states that it blocks accounts from sending friend requests and messages to others based on the following criteria: "You've sent a number of friend requests that have gone unanswered or been marked as unwelcome."
This petition calls on Facebook to change this practice by:
1) Removing the criterion of unanswered requests, as this may simply indicate a user has not been using Facebook for an extended period.

2) Stop blocking this feature based on responses that indicate "I don't know this person" and substitute a response that states, "This person is abusing spamming and/or harassing me."
3) Institute a different method of weeding out spammers, such a captcha or other feature.

4) Stop punishing people for trying to connect online.
5) Discontinue the "people you may know" feature, which invites people to make friend requests - for which they may later be punished.
We, Facebook users, do not appreciate being spammed or harassed, but we also wish to reserve the right to make our own decisions regarding whom we choose to connect with online. We respectfully ask Facebook to recognize our right to free association on its site.
