The City of Alameda is trying to again close the Alameda Animal Shelter for budget reasons. The City of Alameda attempted to do this a few years back and the result of the community outcry was able to fend off it closing the Alameda Animal Shelter. The city believes they can outsource the needs of the shelter to neighboring cities. These cities already are overcrowded and prefer not to help our Animal Shelter in times of need TODAY. The Alameda Animal Shelter is a NO KILL Shelter while other cities may or may not be. The City will still have to pay to transport animals out of the city AND residents will have to travel to that city to reclaim their family pet.
