Yet again, another rule change has slid in without consultation with the members they represent. See the change below that is now on the FAAA website.

This is a fundamental change in the way the Union leadership will be decided and MUST go to the membership for voting. Those that have voted on this are the only ones who stand to gain out of this rule change.

Does this tell us that the end is near and those in power are preparing for their own futures now that the airline has hit troubled times?

How can we assure that the right person is in control of our futures come the next EBA when they have nothing to gain at all from it? Currently, at least the elected officials have a vested interest when negotiating.

We must send a strong message to the FAAA Leadership and say NO to this. I encourage you to sign this petition with an X if you agree followed by a Y if you have made complaint to the Fair Work Commission. We all know what happens when you put your name to something, remember the newsletters naming and shaming fellow crew.

Rules Alteration Notice

Pursuant to Fair Work (Registered Organisation) Regulations 2009 - paragraph 121(4) notice is given to FAAA members that an application has been made to the Fair Work Commission for the amendment to the eligibility rules of the FAAA by the addition the following sub-rule: -

“(5) the Association shall also consist of persons who are elected or appointed officers of the Association notwithstanding that, subsequent to election or appointment, they may no longer be employed by an airline operator or in any employment otherwise covered by sub-rules (1) to (4).”

As the eligibility rule now stands, an officer who, subsequent to election or appointment, who is no longer employed by an airline operator or in any employment covered by the eligibility rule as it presently stands, is not entitled to remain as a member of the FAAA and to stand for re-election.

The proposed alteration alters this and brings the rule into line with the equivalent rules of many registered organisations. The proposed rule alteration is designed to permit an officer who, subsequent to election or appointment, is no longer employed by an airline operator or in any employment covered by the eligibility rule (apart from the proposed new rule) will nevertheless be entitled to remain as a member and be eligible to remain a member of the FAAA and to stand for re-election.
