BBC & Sky Sports F1 Coverage
It has just been announced that BBC & Sky Sports will share the coverage of F1 from 2012 to 2018. Sky Sports will show all the practices, quals and races whereas BBC will show a significantly reduced amount of coverage. At the moment F1 is free to view for all on the BBC. This has increased interest and viewing figures (i.e. Canadian Grand Prix - over 8 million viewers). As we are all experiencing the economic pinch in our wallets there will be thousands of F1 fans that will not be able to afford adding Sky Sports onto their packages. This will obviously reduce the amount of viewers and interest in the sport. Many strongly believe that this will influence the sport hugely as sponsors will not get the volume of viewing that has enabled the teams to grow and will reduce the amount of money going into the sport and the development in the teams. Will it be economically viable for the sponsors to pour in money when the sport has a reduced viewing! If you want F1 to be free to view please show your support by putting your signature to the petition.
