To:
Isaias Afwerki
President of the State of Eritrea
Asmara, Eritrea

We, the undersigned, are writing you to request that you consider this plea to release all of Eritrea’s prisoner’s of conscience, including: the journalists, religious leaders, military officials, cabinet ministers, and community leaders who were arrested by your administration on September 18, 2001.

Thousands of Eritreans have been languishing in secret prisons for over a decade now. They were never brought to a court of law; neither their families nor human right organizations are allowed to visit them; and to this day, their condition and whereabouts remains unknown.

No human being deserves to be mistreated in such inhumane and barbaric manners, let alone heroes who have spent their entire lives fighting for Eritrea’s independence. What these prisoners and their families had to endure is insurmountable. As responsible citizens, we consider it our sacred duty to call upon you and the Eritrean government to release them immediately and unconditionally.

We sincerely hope you find it in your heart to secure their release so they can reunite with their loved ones.
