As an Otaki resident I have had to drive to Waikanae with my ebike on the rear to cathc the train South. I have cycled a few times between Otaki and Waikanae but it is unpleasant and dangerous. So I stopped. This planning gap is curious and objectionable. Time for a remedy now.

After ecycling several times between Otaki where i live and Waikanae where the public etrain service terminates, I gave up - too unpleasant and dangerous. How I have longed for a cycleway campaign to remedy this crazy gap based on questionable priorities.

Support it! Government needs to front up with funding via NZTA.

And, more importantly, put in a full interchange at Peka Peka. Not having one there was a huge mistake!

This is an enjoyable ride when you don't have to worry about traffic. I used to do it about 15 years ago but wouldn't dare anymore.

Not having a cycle way between Waikanae and Otaki has been a source of frustration, and a hazard having to go on SH1. A proper safe crossing of the Otaki River is also needed.

Build it and they will come...cycleways have proven their worth over and over - Central Otago, New Plymouth, Hawkes bay, Nelson...It's a win-win no brainer! How could we even think about not continuing the cycle path north from Pekapeka??! It must happen, come on Ministers, I can't believe we're having to sign a petition on this. Just do it, please.

I assume that NZTA consider the current State Highway will have less traffic and therefore be sufficient for cyclists. However traffic speeds on that road will still be 80km/hr. It was on the 80km/hr section outside the now burnt down Red Shed Cafe that Kapanui school teacher Frank van Kampen who was only 46ys old lost his life to a drunk driver biking home from work. His life should be remembered by naming the Peka Peka cycle way after him.

I totally agree that it would be nonsense not to extend the shared pathway. Shortsighted and foolhardy.

This would be a great asset to the Otaki-Te Horo area -connecting the local road network, supporting local cafes and businesses, promoting recreation and healthy activity for the community.

Such an amazing resource for Kapiti, and it would be stupid and narrowminded to not extend it through to the Otaki region. Just look to the future, support GREEN, let those mum's and dad's get the whole family on bikes, head to Otaki for a day trip, and if the Government catchup, maybe one day they will be able to TRAIN back to Paraparaumu/Wellington etc. Does this not open up the region, and support clean green NZ.??

Because Peka Peka to Otaki is also part of Kapiti

Would be fantastic to have a dedicated exercise route free from vehicles and longer than the short routes we have currently.

Makes perfect sense to continue the flow of traffic rather traffic stopping & starting creating traffic blocks. Safer too
