Final supporters
Many MA student reps have recently been contacted by students who are concerned about the amount of work due on the 25th May. Last year, MA students were given a week extension for their dissertation outlines to be handed in to allow them to spend enough time on both term-papers and the outline. If we can get enough people to sign this petition from the MA's within global studies, we can present this petition to management in the hope that they can extend the deadline like last year. We're hoping if we get enough signitures we may be able to do something but it may not work so don't leave it in the hope the date will change just in case it doesn't!!
Please can everyone share it within their MA groups in global studies and sign it with their full names and what course they are on!

Gender, Violence and Conflict students have had particular difficulty being assigned supervisors this term, with some of us - myself included - only receiving confirmation as late as last week. The amount of work due for 25th May seems difficult without this added time constraint. Hope the department will reconsider
The term breaks lead to classes running late into the exam period allowing for just a week or so for drafting of quality research papers alongside coordinating dissertation readings. We need more time!
I have three papers, including the dissertation outline, due for May 25th. They equate to just under 12,000 words. One piece is worth 90% of one module. I also have an assignment due at the end of next week. My mental health and general wellbeing are taking a battering due to stress and I fully support the extension of the dissertation outline hand in date.
2 essays and a dissertation outline (12500words) due on the same day is quite massive. And the stress of planning the field study at the same time!
Having 2 essay deadlines on the same day (10,000 words) it would relieve some pressure to have an extended deadline for the dissertation proposal.

I was given my supervisor on the 14.04.2016. I contacted her straight away and arranged a meeting for 19.04.2016. It was at this meeting that I was told that my dissertation idea wasn't going to work and that I needed to pick something else. All the reading that I've done over the last 2 months is pointless. By the time the deadline comes, I will have had 5.5 weeks to do all of the research for, and write, the dissertation proposal. This wouldn't be so bad if I didn't also have 2 end of term essays due in for my modules. I totally get that we're MA students, but being given the supervisors so close to the deadlines really isn't fair and doesn't allow us to perform to the best of our abilities!
