If a mother is required go on. Ed rest before the arrival of the child, the time spent with the child is significantly reduced. It's just not enough.

The minister has always called for women to have more children but never saw the disadvantage we mothers have by only being allowed 3 months maternity leave. I was determined to keep breastfeeding for at least 6 months and to attempt a year but it was by no means easy and at times the demands at work and passive aggression because I had to take the time to express the milk was a depressing period for me. Three months are definitely not enough and this leave needs to be extended now!

I wish we had a collective and a petition like this in Trinidad and Tobago because it is definitely necessary!

Longer, paid maternity and paternity leaves can significantly improve outcomes not only for the infant but also for mothers by reducing the risk of postpartum depression. It will go a long way to reducing overall health costs in the for Barbados.
