More than five years ago a ceremony was held to dedicate the “let Freedom Ring Project”. This was a project by the Golden Garden Club, to renovate the Capitol Park Downtown into a “central meeting place for people”. This is according to the City's web site regarding Capitol Park.

After all of this effort and $63,500, the intended use has not been met.

The City of Boise could easily change this lack of use. This downtown park is like no other in the city, therefore no reason to close at sunset.. It is us No playground equipment, no shelter, no restroom and its main use is as a short cut between blocks. Which is ironic since each person using it after dark as a shortcut is breaking the law, since all city parks close at sunset.

speech zone where Americans could get together without a permit. This use would cost the city no additional funds, would provide a great place for musicians, jugglers, speech makers, comics or anyone to engage the general public. It is isolated enough that there should be no objections from neighbors. In fact this use would enhance the downtown experience for residents and visitors alike. Well at the same time helping to make “Freedom Ring” and lessening selective enforcement of the park curfew law.
